FAQ'S
What is Alpaca Fiber?
Where does it come from?
What does it feel like?
Does it keep me warm? Does it absorb moisture?
Is it the same as wool?
If I am allergic to wool, would I be allergic to Alpaca fiber?
A Brief Introduction - Soft as cashmere and warmer, lighter and stronger than wool, alpaca fiber comes in 22 natural colors. Alpacas are shorn in the spring for their wonderful fleece. This cashmere-like fleece, once reserved for Incan royalty, is now enjoyed by spinners and weavers around the world.
Softness and Visual Texture
Softness and visual texture - The fiber, soft to the touch, and with excellent appearance and natural luster, gives garments unsurpassed drape, elegance and style.
Thermal insulation and moisture-absorbing properties - The fiber is a thermal insulator and absorbs ambient humidity, thus affording greater protection and comfort in a variety of climates. The alpaca hair follicle has air pockets, which add to the insulation properties. Alpaca fiber is not wool. It is understood that it is many times warmer than wool. Wool comes from sheep; Alpaca fiber comes from an Alpaca. If you are allergic to wool, you will NOT be allergic to Alpaca fiber because there are no chemicals added to the processing of Alpaca fiber. The fiber is washed in hair shampoo.
